Dr. John W. S. Howard

Dr. John W. S. Howard serves as Pastor of Camp Grove Baptist Church, providing spiritual leadership with a commitment to biblical preaching, Christian education, leadership development, and compassionate service to others.

A distinguished scholar and lifelong learner, Dr. Howard holds the Bachelor of Arts (B.A.), Master of Divinity (M.Div.), Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.), and Doctor of Psychology (Psy.D.) degrees. His extensive educational background has helped shape a ministry that brings together faith, scholarship, pastoral care, and an understanding of the needs of individuals and communities.

In 2021, Dr. Howard received a Presidential Achievement Award from President Joe Biden in recognition of his work in psychotherapy, higher education, and pastoral ministry. Throughout his years of service, he has sought to use both his education and ministry experience to encourage, educate, and empower others.

Dr. Howard is also a prolific author, having written approximately 20 books addressing matters of faith, education, human development, and contemporary issues. Among his most recent works is Sense and Sensibility: Why the Neurodiversity Population Must Be Considered, which reflects his continuing interest in understanding and advocating for the diverse needs of people.

Beyond the pulpit, Dr. Howard extends his voice and ministry through radio. He can be heard weekly on WDVA 1250 AM and 89.5 FM, providing another avenue through which he shares insight, encouragement, and meaningful dialogue with the broader community.

His Vision for Camp Grove

At the heart of Dr. Howard's pastoral leadership is a clear and enduring vision for Camp Grove Baptist Church: "Preach the Gospel of Jesus Christ, Promote Christian Education, and Meet the Physical Needs of Humanity.” This vision reflects his belief that the ministry of the church reaches beyond Sunday worship. The church is called to proclaim Christ, equip believers with biblical knowledge, develop strong Christian leaders, and demonstrate the love of God through practical service to people in need.

As part of this commitment, Dr. Howard conducts the Christian Training Series each year to educate, equip, and raise up leaders who can carry forward the vision, ministry, and rich tradition of Camp Grove Baptist Church. Through preaching, teaching, scholarship, leadership development, and community service, Dr. John W. S. Howard continues to lead Camp Grove Baptist Church with a vision that honors its heritage while preparing the congregation for future generations of ministry.
